Close to old convents and cathedrals, there tower over modern shopping malls and skyscrapers. But, originally, Moscow is the epicenter of the Russian history. Red Square is the most famous city square in Moscow and, arguably, one of the most renowned in the world. The square separates the Kremlin, which used to be the royal citadel and is currently the official residence of the President of Russia, from a historic merchant area called Kitai-gorod. Resurrection Gate is known as the only existing gate of the Kitai-gorod in Moscow. It connects the north-western end of Red Square with Manege Square and gives its name to Voskresenskaya Square (known as Resurrection Square) placed nearby. Moscow parks are also popular among holiday-makers. Alexander Garden is one of the first public parks in Moscow. There are 3 separate gardens situated along the western Kremlin wall. The State Historical Museum of Russia is a museum of the Russian history located between Red Square and Manege Square. There are exhibitions of remnants of the prehistoric peoples that inhabited present-day Russia as well as extremely valuable works of art obtained by the Romanov family. The total number of objects in the museum's collection averages out at millions. They say Moscow will certainly exhaust you before you exhaust its possibilities.
