| These days we talk a lot about generic medicines, or generics as they are generally called. What do they constitute? Generic drugs are a range of medical products that are produced and sold without brand name or patent, but at the same time they are identical to their brand-name equivalents. They are reputed to be resembling to branded medicines in composition, safety, dosage, efficiency and method of use. What is different between these two types of medicines is that brand-name products' cost is much higher. In accordance with the statistics, generic medications cost seventy per cent cheaper than their equivalents approved by the FDA.
Branded medicines are generally patented what means that their manufacturers are reputed to be the innovators of the medications and the only producer of this kind of medical products for twenty years. In this way, a corporation-inventor has a chance to cover all the charges on the creation of the medicine because they enjoy exclusive rights to producing and selling of the medical product. But after the 20 year period other firms obtain a chance to produce and sell generic versions of the patented medical products. As it has already been mentioned, generic drugs are demonstrably cheaper than FDA-approved ones, and there are some reasons for that. Firstly, they don't need to spend resources and money for the researches and patent fees. Secondly, to win a competition they need to decrease prices because most of the people would prefer branded medications to generic ones in case the prices were the same. That is why the manufacturers of generic medical products try to sell their production at the lowest price possible.
It's understandable that the majority of people choose cheaper medical products rather than more expensive ones, but still they are anxious about the quality. We would not recommend to obtain the medical products without FDA approval, since nobody can answer for their effectiveness and safety. But the generic variants of famous drugs that have passed FDA tests are completely identical to their branded equivalents. Otherwise the FDA would never approve them.
Generic medications are now widely represented in online pharmacies. Buying a medicine from Internet pharmacy may be a bargain, or a waste of money depending on which pharmacy you choose. That is why prior to purchasing a medicine you have to make sure that the pharmacy has a good reputation. Read consumers' references, consult your friends. When it comes to medicines note that money does not have the same value as your health. |
